‘Embrace Your Resilience’
January 22 – March 12, 2021 (8 weeks)

2020 was a year of great upheaval but we adapted by creating new ways to do business, educate, and socialize. While there are promising signs of resilience more change is yet to come. If reading this makes you feel nervous that’s because it’s normal. Humans are hard wired to resist change. Part of the brain interprets it as a threat and releases the hormones for fear, fight, or flight.

But there’s good news for those trying to deal with the psychological costs of change such as increased anxiety and fear. Multiple studies show that self care practices like yoga and meditation can help manage stress levels and reduce the fight or flight response.

In this workshop you will:
* Practice simple yoga poses to release energy in the body;
* Employ various meditation techniques such as visualization and chanting of ancient mantras;
* Learn breathing techniques to calm the sympathetic fight or flight nervous system.

Effects include a calmer mind, stronger body, increased lung capacity, greater focus and self awareness. Once you learn these tools for self care you can practice them anytime.

No prior yoga or meditation experience necessary.

Imelda Oppenheim
Meditative Yoga Instructor

Imelda is a San Francisco based teacher of Meditative Yoga.
Meditative Yoga encourages the student to find, listen to, and follow the Guru Within. Through study of your own body, your own mind, your own spirit, students find their CENTER. With the mind of a student, Imelda helps others become students of themselves.

In 2000 Imelda stepped onto the mat for the first time at a Bikram ‘hot yoga’ class. Over the next twenty years she shaped her practice through study of different yoga styles, including Vinyasa, Anusara, Iyengar and Kundalini. As a personal trainer and yoga instructor, she has helped countless students explore their own physicality, and be more confident and centered in their bodies. This is how the journey begins.

Imelda was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. at the age of 11. She is thrilled to be able to be with you virtually in her homeland to share Meditative Yoga with you. Just as she experienced transformation on a very deep level, she hopes you find joy and what transformation you desire through this practice.

Here are a few guidelines to facilitate a seamless move from Studio to Zoom:

  1. Position your camera so you see your whole mat including your entire person standing at the top of the mat.
    – Set your device on a table or shelf 53-60cm (21-24”) high and 168cm (5.5’) away from your mat – at an angle (10 or 2 o’clock) from front of mat.
  2. Make sure your background is not overly illuminated from lights or windows, otherwise you will become a silhouette on screen.
  3. Download ZOOM app.
    – click on link or enter the meeting id and password
  4. When on Zoom:
    – as you log in, use the Video preview to help you position your device and mat
    – make sure your audio is on mute, this keeps out all external noises from disrupting the ‘quiet’ of the room
    – make sure video is on and your screen is not black
  5. Check your internet connection.
  6. Should you need to communicate with the teacher during class, please use the Chat option.
