Ashtanga Yoga

Mysore is a place in India. Because it was the residence of the Ashtanga guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Mysore is also a traditional method of teaching yoga that unfolds the series to each practitioner, on an individual basis, introducing new poses in increments. A beginner starts with only a few poses, gradually adding more and more as his practice develops and his proficiency and commitment evolve.

These classes are suitable for advanced students. They are also highly recommended for beginners, those with injuries and special needs. If you are new to the practice or have special requirements, please confirm your attendance in advance so that we can better take care of your needs.

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow Yoga integrates the breath in both moving poses and seated meditation. The class aims to relax and balance the mind and body; thereby boosting energy levels with poses held for an extended period of time facilitating a deeper release. This class is ideal for beginners, people with injuries, for the elderly, for those who are less flexible and people who’d like an introduction to yoga in an encouraging and supportive environment. A commitment to explore and gain knowledge of one’s Self is a must.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Flow is a system of yoga where the movement is synchronized with breath to create flowing sequences of poses and transitions. Each movement corresponds to either an inhale or an exhale, with the breath initiating the movement.

The class explores various poses at no set sequence, focusing on a certain theme each time such as strengthening the core muscles or improving balance and flexibility. A freewheeling and fun class.

Pregnancy Yoga

Fertility yoga is a valuable first step in preparing one’s body, mind, and spirit for significant life changes. There will be an emphasis on poses that reduce stress, promote a positive spirit, and increase energy flow through the body which can support the hormonal and reproductive system to welcome new life.

Prenatal yoga is perhaps the most ideal way to stay in shape during pregnancy, with gentle poses designed to keep muscles toned and joints limber while also improving balance and circulation. It also teaches the mother-to-be how to breathe fully and relax, which will prepare her for labor and giving birth.

Postnatal yoga provides a gentle way to recover after childbirth with mothers going through moderate yoga routines to restore strength, flexibility and balance, while at the same time promoting the production of breast milk. The class also provides an excellent opportunity for new mothers to bond and interact with each other.

Sharing Yoga

We are very happy to offer yoga therapy for children with special needs, sharing the benefits of Yoga to significantly enhance the physical, mental and emotional development of children with special needs in a safe and gentle manner. The sessions incorporate an integrated system of balanced yoga poses designed to:

Improve cognitive and motor skills in children with learning and developmental disabilities
Increase body awareness, strength and flexibility
Introduce specialized breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity
Include early intervention to assure the healthy formative development of infants, toddlers and teenagers
Yoga for Children With Special Needs will complement and enhance the child’s physical and occupational therapy sessions. The sessions are given on an individual basis. A group class is organized for children that have reached a certain level of development in their yoga practice.

These sessions are extremely gentle and safe for babies (starting age 0) and children with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Microcephaly, Autism and other developmental disabilities. This also provides an effective treatment for children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Learning Disabilities.

Cherry Du, who trained directly under Sonia Sumar and is certified by the Yoga for the Special Child®, LLC, will facilitate these specialized yoga therapy sessions.
